Haunted Cornfield

Haunted Cornfield

All those creepy scarecrows need a place to call home too.

In our case, a nice tall cornfield down near the street also gave us a convenient platform to mount some "mood lights as well.

Here's what the finished product looks like in daylight. Click on an image to see the full-sized version:

Basically this is just a square wooden frame (mostly 2x4s) which we tied cornstalks to. Here's a few shots of the construction process. To keep things simple the box is 8 foot by 8 foot, using scraps of lumber we had laying around. First the frame being built:

Next a few shots as I was mounting the cornstalks. Each stalk was lined up against the horizontal supports, and a loop of twine was run around each (one continuous string looped individually around each stalk).

As you can imagine, it's a pretty easy build, though if you have to pay what we did for cornstalks (they're EXPENSIVE in our area) it may not be worth the trouble... I used about 1 stalk for every 4-5 inches, which made a pretty good barrier -- just dense enough to hide what's inside, but with enough openings to make shadows visible from inside.
