Light-O-Rama Show

Using a 16-channel Light-O-Rama Unit

We splurged on a 16 channel Light-O-Rama unit I've been working on choreographing several Halloween tunes. Using the graphical sequence-editor program that came with the unit, I designed a light show for the front of the house; lighting up various objects in the graveyard and a trio of swooning skellies on the roof.

Here's a couple still shots of some of the lights in action (click it to see the full size image):

Here you can see short (and poor quality - sorry - I'm working on it) videos of two song segments from the show:

The Light-O-Rama unit hooks up to a computer and lets you control 16 separate outlets (you can daisy-chain units for a total of 128 separate outlets). The show sequencer lets you view and choreograph your show graphically on the computer, then the show editor and scheduler programs let you assign multiple songs and/or animation sequences to a "show", and schedule that show to play automatically at specified days and times.

We played a nightly show throughout October, broadcast onto local FM radio receivers for the cars passing by.

I completed 6 songs in time for the Halloween show, and have many others I hope to get to for next year. I've been very impressed with the unit and software, and plan to expand on it soon!

We have purple lights running along the eave of the house from one end to the other, purple and orange lights wrapped around the three main house columns, orange and green strings going up the large tree out front, a string of low voltage lights up the driveway which will be covered with pumpkins, a trio of bucky skeletons up on the roof, and a couple other spots spread throughout the show.

Here's some pictures of us putting up the lights on the house and in one of the trees. Click on any image to see a larger version.
